risography 297mm x 420mm
the sun is about to set and bathes the city in a colourful light. the streets appear eerily empty, with a sense of calm spreading over them as darkness falls. now is the time for the nobori kites to hover over the city and bathe themselves in the light of the sunset.
幟凧 (nobori tako, /no̞bo̞ɾi tako̞/)

nobori kites are a special form of traditional japanese kite. they are particularly well-known in the form of koi nobori-windsock-like banners in the shape of koi carp, which symbolise strength, stamina and luck in japan. these elaborate banners are hoisted especially on kodomo no hi (children's day) on 5 may to symbolise the wish for a successful future for children. inspired by this ancient tradition, the print captures the elegance and power of this unique kite art.
